Reds bats find the ball

May 29, 2010

I was driving home Friday night listening to the Reds on the radio, it was shortly after the Drew Sutton granny that Marty Brenneman and Jim Kelch were talking about the Reds power surge.  It has been 16 games now since the Reds didn’t homer.  That is amazing.  I don’t think the Reds did that once with Adam Dunn and Ken Griffey, Jr. in the line-up.

This team is really becoming a good offensive team.   They lead the N.L. in home runs,  runs, hits, RBI, total bases, on-base percentage, slugging, team average…and I’m sure the list goes on, I’m just tired of listing them.  If the pitching continues  to come around (though still rated #13 in the league as a staff), the starting (even Aaron Harang) has been good, the relief corps (aside from Mike “Stinkin'” Lincoln) has shown signs of what it was last season (though not consistently enough for me to be impressed), this could be a special season.

One of the things that is most impressive is the fact that the showboating is gone (aside from Brandon Phillips).  This team is winning because of hustle, good defense, and offense that has been well good, and pitching that has been what it needs to be.

Jonny Gomes is the leader of the All-out-every-play Club.  The guy about ran Mike Lincoln over in the 7th because he was hustling out of the box to get a double and complete the cycle.

This could be a fun summer!
